Rory McIlroy wins Irish Open after dramatic play-off against Joakim Lagergren

McIlroy forced a play-off at the K Club after stunning eagle putt on the 18th.

LAST UPDATE | 7 Sep 2025

RORY MCILROY HAS won the 2025 Amgen Irish Open after a dramatic play-off against Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren.

McIlroy held his nerve to triumph on the third play-off hole in front of home support at the K Club.

The Holywood man sent the tournament the distance with a stunning eagle putt on the 18th hole.

Lagergren took the outright lead with an eagle on the 16th, but McIlroy dug deep to bring the Swede to a shootout. Spain’s Angel Hidalgo fell short in his bid to join them.

Both McIlroy and Lagergren carded final rounds of 66 to sit 17-under for the tournament.

After a bogey on the opening hole this afternoon, McIlroy played a steady round with five birdies before that memorable eagle on the 18th.

The 2025 Masters champion birdied the second, fourth and fifth to really establish his charge, and added two more on the ninth and 13th.

France’s Adrien Saddier held a one-shot lead starting out this afternoon, but his challenge faded.

Shane Lowry, Tom McKibbin and Alex Maguire were the other Irish golfers in action on the final day.

More to follow.
