Host Patrick Kielty returns tomorrow RTÉ

Break out the bodhrán - The Late Late Show is holding its first ever trad music special

There’s set to be a blend of trad and folk tomorrow night.

THE LATE LATE Show is to host its first ever Irish traditional music special tomorrow night, celebrating all things trad.

We’re told that host Patrick Kielty will throw open the doors for “the seisiún of all seisiúns”, with a range of Irish and international musicians in studio for the night.

There will be a healthy amount of folk music throughout proceedings thanks to guests from further afield, including American folk singer Peggy Seeger and UK actor Ricky Tomlinson.

Now aged 90, Seeger is still performing and releasing music, having hailed from the famous Seeger family of musicians, including her father Pete.

According to RTÉ, Peggy will pay tribute to her late husband Ewan MacColl with a performance of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face – the iconic song he wrote for her.

Former Royal Family actor Tomlinson, meanwhile, will be bringing his banjo along for a bit more folk.

Domestic musicians on the bill include Kevin Conneff of The Chieftains, Dónal Lunny, Fiachna Ó Braonáin and Zoë Conway.

Also featuring is Lisa Canny, founding member of all-female trad supergroup Biird. She’ll chat to Kielty about the year she’s had which included a tour with Ed Sheeran.

The night is doubling up as a preview of Trad Fest which runs from 21-25 January across Dublin.
