Lunchtime Fix: 6 things you need to know

Catch up as you refuel.

1. PHEW! Anyone planning to fly over the next few days can breathe easier as airspace has already reopened after a fissure eruption near the Bardarbunga volcano in Iceland.

That means no ash cloud. For now.

2. ISLAMIC State militants have released another video of the beheading of a man they were holding captive.

3. HEADING to Electric Picnic? Ouch.

4. UTV Ireland has said “massively insulting” comments made by its boss about Irish housewives were “taken out of context”. A spokesperson told DailyEdge.ie:

Mary is a mother herself. [The comments] were part of a wider conversation that was going on and they weren’t meant in the way that they were published. They were said in jest. It was part of the moment that it was. She was actually having a go at her own age while talking to young reporters.

5. THE death toll in the Ukraine has hit nearly 2,600, a worrying fact that Barack Obama spoke about at length yesterday. However, the Internet was more concerned with his tan suit.

6. A Fine Gael TD has told the Irish Times that she believes the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution should be repealed. Olivia Mitchell is the first from her party to make the call. This could now get interesting for the government parties.
