Major tailbacks on M1 southbound after multi-vehicle crash

A pile-up at around 12:40pm caused the entire motorway to be closed off to passing southbound traffic.

THERE ARE MAJOR tailbacks on the M1 motorway southbound this lunchtime, after the road was briefly closed entirely as a result of a multi-vehicle crash.

The road was closed almost entirely at about 12:40pm when emergency services were called to the scene, which is just before Junction 1 with the M50.

The left lane has since reopened to southbound traffic but heavy delays remain in place.
