Motorcyclist (50s) killed in M50 collision

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area, where traffic is currently at a standstill.

A MAN IN his 50s has died following a collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the southbound carriageway of the M50 near Junction 7 at the Lucan/Palmerstown exit earlier today.

The deceased man was travelling on a motorcycle, gardaí said. There were no other injuries reported. 

Earlier, the M50 was closed southbound following the serious collision, with gardaí and emergency services at the scene.

The collision occurred between Junctions 6 and 7 at the Lucan/Palmerstown exit.

The M50 has now reopened. Motorists are warned to expect delays on approach to Dublin from M1, M2, and M3.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have completed an examination of the scene and the southbound carriageway has now reopened.

The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
