A MAN IN his 30s has been arrested after another man died at a house in Co Leitrim.

Shortly after 9pm on Thursday, gardaí responded to reports of an incident at a residential property in Arderry, a rural town land in Drumreilly, where a man in his 40s was found unresponsive.

He was treated at the scene by emergency services but was pronounced dead a short time later. Investigators believe he died following a stabbing.

A man in his 30s is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in Co Leitrim.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí attached to the Sligo-Leitrim crime functional area have commenced an investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident in Co Leitrim on Thursday.”

A senior investigating officer has been appointed and the local coroner and the office of the state pathologist have been notified.

The body of the deceased remains at the scene, which is preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. Investigations are ongoing.

Arderry is a remote town land located between the villages of Carrigallen and Ballinamore.

Fianna Fáil councillor Paddy O’Rourke, who is local to the area, said Arderry is a “very rural area, very peaceful area” with few people living there.
