Man in his 40s dies after being struck by dumper truck in Co Cork

The Health and Safety Authority has been notified and a full investigation will be carried out.

AN INVESTIGATION HAS been launched after a man in his 40s died in Co Cork following an incident involving a dumper truck.

Gardaí and the emergency services attended at the scene at Church Road, Ballycotton in this afternoon The alarm was raised at 3.30pm.

It’s understood the man was carrying out works in the area and was struck by his dumper truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body is set to be removed to Cork University Hospital, where a postmortem examination will be carried out.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are due to attend at the scene. The L3633 road is closed to traffic. Local diversions have been put in place.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified. A full investigation will be carried out.

The Coroner has been made aware of the incident and an inquest will be held in due course.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 3pm and 3.45pm are asked to make this footage available to them.
