Man charged in connection with hit-and-run death of cyclist in his 80s in Co Meath

Edward (Ned) McLoughlin was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown following the collision but was later pronounced dead.

A MAN IN his 40s is due to appear before court this morning after being charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Co Meath.

He had been arrested yesterday by gardaí as part of their investigation into the death of a cyclist in his 80s following a hit-and-run on Friday, 12 September.

Edward (Ned) McLoughlin, from Trim, Co Meath, was found unresponsive at the scene in Batterstown, Ballivor.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the fatal collision on the R156 shortly after 10am on 12 September.

The driver of the vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene.  

McLoughlin was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, where he was later pronounced dead.

The man in his 40s who was arrested yesterday has since been charged and is due to appear before Trim District Court this morning.
