Man in his 20s dead following single-car crash on N4 in Westmeath

The collision occurred shortly before 1am this morning.

A YOUNG MAN has died following a single-vehicle collision on the N4 in Co Westmeath early this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services responded shortly after 12:50am on the N4 near Ballinafid, around 10km north of Mullingar.

The driver, a man aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road between Mullingar and Rathowen remains closed while gardaí carry out a technical examination.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has dash-cam footage from the area between 12:30am and 1:10am to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
