Man (40s) dies after crash involving car and truck in Sligo

The man overtook the garda car at 130km per hour in an 80km per hour zone.
The incident took place on the N4 close to Mullingar at around 12.30am.
The garda sergeant has been described by other members as a “staunchly proud community man”.
Between 1996 and 2018, there have been nine fatalities on that stretch of the N4.
The driver was the sole occupant of the car.
The incident happened near Newtownforbes on the N4 just after 3pm.
The man in his late 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.
There was no one else travelling in the car at the time.
Gardaí administered the test on the N4 in west Dublin last night.
Fire and Garda traffic services attended the scene of the crash this morning.
It will be freezing tonight in many places, according to Met Éireann.
The N4 at Bunbrosna is currently closed and local diversions are in place.
The 33-year-old man also received a courts summons for bald tyres.
Another man in his 40s has been rushed to hospital.
The 50-year-old has not been seen since 18 July.
The N4 Action Group had erected 30 white crosses along the 10km stretch to mark the number of deaths on the road in recent years.
The incident saw the N4 partially closed yesterday but it has since reopened.
A man was killed at around 4:30pm when he was struck by a van on the N4 in Roscommon – but he cannot be identified.
