Man in Co Down ‘slashed multiple times’ by group of men with face coverings

The PSNI also arrested a man following a serious assault in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.

A MAN IN Co Down was “slashed multiple times” in an incident outside a hotel in Co Down on Tuesday evening.

PSNI officers were alerted to a stabbing incident in the Lurgan Road area of Banbridge at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, 23 December.

It was reported that a man was attacked by a number of men outside a hotel.

It was also reported that one of the suspects exited a vehicle at the front of the hotel and threw a liquid in the victim’s face.

The injured man attempted to run away but fell and was then “slashed multiple times across his back” before the men got into the vehicle and drove off.

The men involved in the attack had their faces covered and it is believed they were driving a black Toyota Avensis.

The PSNI has appealed to anyone who was in the area on Tuesday evening between 8pm and 8.30pm to make contact.

They are also interested to hear from anyone who might have any CCTV, dash-cam or other footage.

Meanwhile, the PSNI has arrested a man following a serious assault in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.

Police have made an arrest following a serious assault in Enniskillen on Christmas Eve.

The PSNI had received a report at around 12.05am overnight of a man being punched to the head by another man outside licensed premises in the East Bridge Street area.

Officers attended the scene, but the injured man had already gone on to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are serious, but not believed to be life-threatening.

A 32-year-old man matching the description of the person who carried out the assault was subsequently located by officers and arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Following a search of his person, he was further arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class C controlled drug.

He remains in custody at this time.

Police are also appealing for information in relation to this incident

A spokesperson remarked that as the festive period gets underway and more people are out and about, the PSNI is asking the public to always socialise safely.

“If you’re drinking, be mindful of your alcohol intake, as this can affect your judgement and decision-making,” said the PSNI spokesperson.

“Look out for your friends. If you go out together, stay together. Plan your journey home and make arrangements before you go out.

“Enjoy yourselves and don’t let the red mist or alcohol influence your actions. The consequences of a wrong action can be devastating.”
