A 29-YEAR-OLD man charged over a series of assaults in south Dublin on Wednesday has been remanded in custody with an order for psychiatric attention.

Oleh Schastnyi, from Ukraine but with an address in a hotel at Donegal, Co Donegal, appeared at Dublin District Court today.

Schastnyi was charged with assault causing harm to a male at Kimmage Road Lower, and to a female at Mount Argus Park, and a less serious assault on another male at Mount Argus Park.

He is also accused of producing a metal key as a weapon at both locations.

Garda Cian Meade stated that he arrested the man on Wednesday at 4:16 pm at a property on Kimmage Road Lower.

He was taken to Crumlin Garda station and detained.

The court heard he “made no reply” to each charge following caution.

Garda Meade said he intended to object to bail.

However, defence solicitor Daniel Hanahoe told Judge Treasa Kelly that there would be no application for bail at this stage and there was consent to the accused being remanded in custody.

Dressed in a grey sweater, green tracksuit trousers and runners, Schastnyi listened to the proceedings with the aid of a Russian interpreter but did not address the court.

The defence applied for medical attention for the accused in custody, telling Judge Kelly that the accused was schizophrenic and would need psychiatric services.

The judge made a direction that Schastnyi receive appropriate medical attention in custody. She also noted from the garda that “It’s collectively the same incident, just three locations in close proximity.”

The judge noted there were three injured parties as well

Legal aid was granted as Schastnyi was remanded in custody to appear again on October 9 at Cloverhill District Court; no plea was indicated.

The charges are under section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act and section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.
