SNOW SHOWERS HAVE been breaking out across eastern counties as six counties along the coast are under a Status Yellow weather warning. 

After the country was bathed in sun yesterday, sleet and snow has been spotted in several counties this afternoon.

A status yellow weather warning had been issued for rain this afternoon for Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford. 

But in some of those counties at least, the precipitation is falling as snow. 

According to Met Éireann temperatures are set to drop below freezing this evening.

“Frost and ice will develop widely with mostly light variable breezes,” the latest forecast says.

People have been left scratching their heads over the sudden change in weather since it looked like Spring might finally have sprung yesterday.

Jimi Blake of Hunting Brook Gardens near Blessington took to Instagram to show his followers the scene in Co Wicklow.

Dublin has also seen outbreaks of snow this afternoon.

It’s a stark contrast to the weather the past two days when people were convinced that that we’s seen the last of winter. Tuesday was even nice enough to get people out sunbathing.

The weather warning is due to expire at 6pm this evening and tomorrow is set to see a return to more spring-appropriate sunny conditions.
