Setauket is a ten-bed home that certainly needs some TLC.

6 THE BIRCHES may be a long way from Long Island, but we’d hazard a guess that it has taken some inspiration from across the Atlantic. Just like the train stop and area in the stateside town of Brookhavan, this 894 m² home is called Setauket. And while it has the potential to join the ranks of the large and lavish homes found in New York state, it does need a bit of work. It’s now on the market for €1,850,000 and our guess is that you’d need this and more to make it habitable.

Once owned by prominent Dublin publicans, the Cassidys, 6 The Birches is far from the average family home. In need of a complete renovation, it’s ten bedrooms, pool area and basement games room might make it sounds like the ideal business venture to some. And, no doubt the revenue stream would be much-needed.

The property sits on .6 of an acre of private gardens that partly face south at the back of the build. There’s plenty of parking to the front of house and it’s all set well back from the road and behind gates for extra privacy.

The ground floor of this whopper home includes a porch and a large entrance hall that leads to a study, living room, dining room, drawing room, kitchen and a huge conservatory.

There is also a guest bathroom and two more reception rooms on this floor, and that’s before you get to the pool house along with another self-contained kitchen and bathroom.

All of the bedrooms are spread across the two upper floors. Seven sit on the first, and three of these have en suite bathrooms. There is also a large terrace that looks over the pool and garden below.

The remaining four bedrooms, one of which enjoys a mezzanine, are all on the second floor. There is also a large attic space prime for conversion.

This massive home is part of a development called The Birches that’s located off Torquay Road. Foxrock village is just a short stroll away and a trip to the city will take less than 30 minutes by car.

This collection of homes dates to the 1980s and each one sits on a large private sites. Of course, this attracted some high profile business people with David Doyle, Johnny Ronan and Paddy McKillen being residents over the years.

While Setauket needs a lot of work, and in turn, money, this is a rare opportunity to own a unique and luxurious home in one of Dublin’s most exclusive areas. We can’t wait to see what becomes of it.

Setauket, 6 The Birches, Torquay Road, Foxrock, Dublin 18 is on the market for €1,850,000 through Galvin Property & Finance.
