LAST UPDATE | 25 Oct 2025

THE BROTHER OF Jozef Puska, the man who murdered Aisling Murphy, has been assaulted by a fellow prisoner in Mountjoy Jail, The Journal has learned.

Multiple sources have said that Marek Puska (36) was attacked in the prison last night.

He along with four other family members were sentenced this week for their efforts to cover up evidence of their relative’s murder of the 23-year-old primary school teacher in 2022.

Puska’s brothers Marek and Lubomir (37) were sentenced to 30 months each in prison. Lubomir’s wife Viera Gaziova (40) was sentenced to 24 months and Marek’s wife Jozefina to 21 months.

Jozef Puska’s partner and the mother of his children, Lucia Istokova (36), will serve a 20-month sentence.

The assault on Marek Puska happened last night in the Dublin prison and it is understood the Irish Prison Service (IPS) are carrying out their own discipline investigation while they have also referred the case to gardaí.

It is understood that the incident happened while he was showering with a group of prisoners. He is currently on protection. Sources have said that Marek Puska is in hospital with serious injuries.

The IPS said they could not comment on individual prisoner cases.

A statement has been requested from An Garda Síochána.

On June 17 this year, a jury accepted the prosecution’s case that Lubomir Jnr and Marek misled gardai by failing to disclose vital information when they gave witness statements, while their wives – Gaziova and Grundzova – burned Jozef’s clothes to impede his arrest or prosecution.

All four had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Jozef Puska’s partner Lucia Istokova pleaded guilty to withholding information in May this year before the commencement of the trial.
