Jeff Buckley and Shakira are first time nominees while Mariah Carey is hopeful again

Shakira, Mariah Carey and Jeff Buckley among Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees

Nominees for induction this year also include Oasis, Pink and Phil Collins

THE 2026 NOMINEES for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame have been announced, and will include Shakira and Jeff Buckley.

The list of 17 potential inductees was published today and features 10 first-time and seven returning nominees.

Shakira and Jeff Buckley are both first-time nominees alongside legends including Lauryn Hill, New Edition and Pink.

Wu-Tang-Clan are nominated for the first time. Their nomination comes after controversy last year when Kiss member Gene Simmons said hip hop “does not belong in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame”.

“It’s not my music. I don’t come from the ghetto. It doesn’t speak my language,” Simmons said.

Another first time solo nominee is Phil Collins, though he was previously inducted as a member of Genesis in 2010.

INXS are also set to be nominated. Their music recently found younger audiences when their song Never Tear Us Apart was featured in the TV show Euphoria.

Fresh off the massive success of their reunion tour last year Oasis are nominated for induction for a third time. Mariah Carey is to be included in the list for a third time.

Other returning hopefuls include Iron Maiden, Sade, Joy Division and Billy Idol.

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording. One such nominee this year is Pink, who released her debut single There You Go in 2000.

The hall of fame has been criticised in the past for a lack of diversity in its nominees and inductions, making Sharika’s inclusion in the list especially notable.

The inductees are selected by a panel and will be announced in April.

The full list of nominees is:
