MATT DIAZ ACHIEVED something incredible by losing 270lbs (that’s 19 stone) over the course of six years.
But losing the weight wasn’t the end of the challenges facing him.
Due to the massive weight loss, he is left with loose skin on his body, which, he explained in a personal video, causes him to feel shame.
He described himself as a “big advocate for body positivity”, but said he had never shown what his excess skin looked like.
The video was his way of being open with people.
“I’m scared people won’t find me attractive any more,” he said.
“I feel this all the time. Whenever I sleep with someone new, whenever I’m at a beach or somewhere where I’m supposed to take my shirt off and I can’t.”
I think it’s important that I’m not ashamed of who I am.
I’m trying really hard to love myself.
A GoFundMe page was set up to try and raise money for Matt’s skin removal surgery.
It has already surpassed its $20k goal by over $11k.
While a common ‘side-effect’ of weight loss, loose skin isn’t always talked about by people. It can be removed using cosmetic surgery.
The response to Matt’s video has been overwhelmingly positive:
