IF YOU’RE LUCKY in a regular raffle you might win a fancy hamper or a night away in a nice hotel. If you’re lucky in this raffle, you’ll win a three-bed cottage in Co Mayo.
After having coronavirus, the owners of this cottage have put the property up for raffle ‘for the people who brought Ireland through the COVID-19 pandemic’.
Tickets for the raffle are €10 and the proceeds will be distributed to hospital kitchen staff, porters, orderlies and cleaners.
Located a 10-minute drive from Foxford village, the property sits on 0.75 acres of mature gardens and enjoys uninterrupted countryside views, plus views of the Ox Mountains. It dates back over 100 years and has plenty of character, as well as modern amenities including internet and satellite tv.
Stepping inside, vaulted ceilings and wood panelling create a cosy yet spacious feel in the living area. There’s a stove in here, which the winner can fuel with turf from the communal bogland. For cold winters, there’s also background heating throughout the property.
The lucky winner won’t have much work to do when they move in as the cottage comes with basic furniture throughout, plus an electric stove, fridge, cookware and tableware in the kitchen.
The property has three double bedrooms, with one on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The ground floor room is charming and enjoys a homely feel, with an exposed stone wall and a wood-panelled ceiling. The remaining two bedrooms have vaulted ceilings, while one overlooks the living area from a mezzanine.

Outside, a former pump house has been converted into a meditation pod, from which you can sit and listen to the peaceful noises of nature, including the nearby Yellow River. There are several outhouses which have been newly roofed on the grounds, while paved patio areas make for the perfect space to unwind outdoors.
Moving away from the property’s tranquil surroundings, Swinford town is a 15-minute drive away, while Knock can be reached in 35 minutes.
