Miley Cyrus ‘returns home’ for Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special

The special will be hosted by Alex Cooper of the Call Her Daddy podcast.

MILEY CYRUS WILL “return home” to the Disney Channel next month for a special show to mark the 20th anniversary of the debut of Hannah Montana.

The special will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and will feature an interview with Miley Cyrus, hosted by Alex Cooper.

Cooper is host of the Call Her Daddy podcast, which airs exclusively on Spotify and is one of the most popular podcasts on the platform.

Disney said the interview will “offer an intimate look at the creation of one of pop culture’s most iconic characters” and will see Cyrus “revisit the moments, music and memories that defined an era”.

Hannah Montana premiered on the Disney Channel on 24 March, 2006, and the special will air on Disney+ 20 years to the day.

The show ran for four seasons and starred Cyrus as ‘Miley Stewart’, a teenager living a double life as famous pop star Hannah Montana.

Her real-life father, Billy Ray Cyrus, was also cast as Hannah Montana’s father, Robby Ray Stewart.

Speaking ahead of the 20th anniversary special, Cyrus remarked that “Hannah Montana’ will “always be a part of who I am”.

“What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection,” said Cyrus.

“The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”

Disney meanwhile said it hopes the special will be a “love letter to the fans, who remain as passionate today as they were when the series debuted almost 20 years ago”.

The Hannah Montana catalogue has amassed more than half a billion hours streamed globally on Disney+ to date.
