Ouch! Deodorant maker Mitchum apologises after reports of burns and blisters

The implicated batches were sold in Ireland, the UK, and South Africa.

DEODORANT BRAND MITCHUM has apologised after some people complained of receiving burns and blisters from some of its roll-in products.

Mitchum said the implicated batches were sold in Ireland, the UK, and South Africa.

In a statement last night, Mitchum said “some of you told us that you have experienced temporary irritation after using selected batches of Mitchum 48-hour 100ml Roll-On”.

Under this statement issued on Instagram, one user said the term “‘temporary irritation’ is an absolute joke, irritation is not the word”.

“Try burns, blisters, scabs, now scars,” they added.

Another said: “I don’t think red raw underarms that are burning and peeling are accurately depicted by your phrasing of ‘temporary irritation’.”

Mitchum apologised to “those who were impacted and for the time it took to complete the investigation”.

A spokesperson said that while the “formula hasn’t changed, a change in the manufacturing process of one of our raw materials altered how the product interacts with the skin in some consumers”.

“That change didn’t meet our standards, or yours,” added the spokesperson.

Mitchum said it has now reverted to its “original process to make sure current and future batches meet the high standards you expect from us”.

Mitchum added that the “issue is limited to a small number of batches”.

The impacted batches can be identified by their batch numbers, which are printed on the bottom of the pack and shown below.

Mitchum said it is “actively working to remove these batches from shelves”.

“We want to make it up to you,” said Mitchum. “So, if you’ve experienced any issues, please reach out to our Customer Care team.”
