Motorola claims this phone's screen won't shatter if you accidentally drop it
Good news for those of you out there who are really clumsy.
MOST SMARTPHONES TEND to be rather similar when it comes to what they offer. Maybe a nice design, faster specs, or a sharper screen.
Motorola decided to announce its latest smartphone, the Moto X Force, in a different way.
It claims that its screen is “guaranteed not to crack or shatter” if you accidentally drop it or if it suffers a fall.
The 5.4-inch screen is protected by a system called ShatterScreen which consists of five layers. The top layer protects against dents and abrasion and can be replaced, and two touchscreen layers are used in case one of them gets damaged.
A HD AMOLED display is placed underneath these screens while an aluminium chassis holds it together.
Its announcement featured its president dropping it and two competitors, the iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S6, onto some tiles. While the X Force survived the demo, the others weren’t so lucky
Alongside that, the company claim the phone will last 48 hours through normal use, thanks to a 3,760 mAh battery, has 32GB of storage, a 21MP camera and expandable storage. While it runs on Android Lollipop, Motorola says it will receive the latest update called Marshmallow.
The device is expected to arrive in Europe next month although no details have been provided about an Irish release. In the UK, an unlocked version of the 32GB model is expected to cost £499 (€695) while the 64GB model will cost and £564 (€786).
