Neil Young removes songs from Amazon Music and gives free access to Greenland residents

The Heart of Gold singer has been vocal in his opposition to US President Donald Trump and the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

NEIL YOUNG HAS removed his songs from Amazon Music over Jeff Bezos’s political affiliations, and offered free access to them for Greenland residents amid US tensions with the country.

The Heart of Gold singer has been vocal in his opposition to US President Donald Trump and the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), particularly in the case of Nicole Good, who was shot and killed by the federal agents earlier this month.

In a recent statement on his website, Young said: “Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos, a billionaire backer of the president.

“The president’s international policies and his support of ICE make it impossible for me to ignore his actions. If you feel as I do, I strongly recommend that you do not use Amazon.”

My music will never be available on Amazon, as long as it is owned by Bezos.

Trump spent months threatening to invade Greenland becuase of its natural resources and advantageous geographical location. He has since backed down, after the European Union and other US allies pushed back.

While Young’s complete catalogue will be available on other paid-for streaming platforms or in physical form from music shops, he is gifting it to Greenlanders free of charge.

“I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government,” he said in a statement today.

“It is my sincere wish for you to be able to enjoy all of my music in your beautiful Greenland home, in its highest quality.”

Young added that he hopes other artists will follow his example.

His message for Americans: “There are many ways to avoid Amazon and support individual Americans and American companies that supply the same products.

“Record stores provide all my vinyl and CDs, while the digital music world has many alternative options to purchase my music if you like it,” he said.

“My position is unfortunately harmful to my record company in the short term, but I think the message I am sending is important and clear.”
