Rolf Harris 'arrested on suspicion of sexual offences'

An 82-year-old man was re-arrested today by police as part of Operation Yewtree.

A MAN ARRESTED by police in the UK on suspicion of sexual offences is believed to be Australian entertainer Rolf Harris.

Scotland Yard said today that on 28 March 2013, an 82-year-old man was arrested. The BBC reported in April that Harris, who lives in Berkshire, was arrested on that date this year.

Today, police said:

The man, from Berkshire, was arrested on suspicion of sexual offences, and taken into police custody. He was initially bailed to return pending further inquiries to a date in August. He has returned on bail today (5 August), where he was further arrested on suspicion of sexual offences in connection with further allegations made to Operation Yewtree.

The man has been re-bailed to a date later in August. BBC News reports that the man arrested today is Harris.

“This individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed ‘others’,” said the police, adding that they would not comment on the identity of who the man arrested may be.

Harris is one of a number of celebrities to have been arrested as part of Operation Yewtree. The probe was set up following claims made against the late former BBC presenter Jimmy Savile.
