UK Parliament could be set to consider a debate on banning Donald Trump
A petition needs to reach 100,000 signatures for the action to take place.

A PETITION FOR Parliament to ban Donald Trump from entering the UK is rapidly gaining support.

Under the UK system, if petition to the government reaches the necessary level it can compel a debate on an issue.

It is required to hit 100,000 signatures for a debate to be considered, with it currently sitting on close to 50,000.

In the text of the petition, it states that:

The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. The same principles should apply to everyone who wishes to enter the UK.
If the United Kingdom is to continue applying the ‘unacceptable behaviour’ criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to the rich as well as poor, and the weak as well as powerful.

This comes following the White House hopeful calling for the United States to block entry for all Muslims – including US citizens who have temporarily left the country.

The comments were met with widespread criticism, with the White House press secretary Josh Earnest saying yesterday that Trump’s comments should disqualify him from being President.

The billionaire was also hit with criticism from his fellow contenders for the Republican nomination, with Jeb Bush calling him “unhinged”.

Progress of the petition can be followed here.
