GARDAÍ IN DUBLIN are appealing for witnesses after a 25-year-old man was stabbed in the face in Dublin city centre.

The incident happened on Parnell Sq North, just north of O’Connell Street, yesterday afternoon at roughly 4.10pm.

The man received serious injuries to his face as he was walking on the square a Garda spokesman said.

The man was accompanied by a 24-year-old woman who was not injured.

He made his way to Temple Street Children’s Hospital and from there was transferred to the nearby Mater hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The scene was preserved for a technical examination but no arrests have been made thus far, according to the spokesman.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Parnell Square North between 3.50pm and 4.10pm and who may have seen unusual activity.

Witnesses are asked to contact Mountjoy gardaí on 01 6668600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

    More Prisons Please
The legal lobby don’t want more prisons as their customers are repeat offenders. Somebody with numerous convictions can potentially make solicitors, Junior council and Senior Council a huge amount of money. They also make money from the damage caused in insurance claims. Of course the judges and their families are all involved in the business so the status quo is maintained. It’s a huge business and if offenders were imprisoned it would seriously effect their business. People’ lives are put in danger to allow criminals continue to prosper and the legal profession to thrive. The moral in the Gardai is shot to pieces with repeat offenders constantly getting off cries. Shame on our government.

You hit the nail on the head there chief. There is something rotten in Irish society between the amount of crime committed and the lack of accountability/punishment for those crimes…

Eh no you don’t get new prisons. Remember how we paid almost 20 million for those acres of land Zoned as farmland in north Dublin? You think it will be possible to build a prison economically on Ireland in the near future? Are you seeing the messing going on with the children’s hospital?
We can’t organise anything here as the political class have ruined the country.

That’s the thing Jamie. To actually be able to drive a knife through someone and especially their face, hard to fathom.

Why? The judge will just let him off at enormous cost to the taxpayer. Cheaper just to buy the guy a few flagons and call it quits instead of this pretendy “Law and order” thing us Paddies have going on.

If other news reports on this incident are to believed, there’s a revenge attack being threatened by some RIRA group. If that’s gonna be the case then I say leave em at it as it’s a waste of garda resources. On the other hand if it’s not the case then I hope justice is served I the proper fashion.

Crime is getting beyond a joke and I think all of us citizens are just at the end of our tether seeing these serial offenders with ludicrous criminal records serving no time and just getting slaps on the wrists.

I saw the marked difference with other countries when I read that a NYC cop was murdered this week and there was uproar in the city because the murderer had 11 previous convictions…..nobody in NYC, in the media or elsewhere could understand why this man was not in jail instead of out on the streets. Now bear in mind these 11 convictions were not for serious offences, they were for drug possession, small drug selling, some shoplifting and that was it. And yet there was outrage. You usually get very few chances in the US, three strikes and you’re gone.

Now……compare that to here. The leader of that gang who terrorised and brutalised that family in Tipp was 22 and yet had 120 prior convictions!!! Yet for some unfathomable reason, the judiciary seem to think serial offenders like that are wasted in Prison. While on bail, this traveller thug went on a crime spree which included the shooting of three people.

It beggars belief. I don’t know what the hell is happening here but we have a cadre of serial offenders who the judges don’t seem to be interested in handing down sentences to. It is not acceptable and things must change. We are being plagued by these thugs on public transport, walking down the street, in pubs, you name it. People who have no fear anymore of the law and act in any way they want.

Will it take another Veronica Guerin type outrage for the government and judiciary to finally act? Will it take a young child being too be savagely beaten or shot dead for action to happen?

As long as there are enough Garda resources to protect Joan Burton and the rest of her ilk, that’s all that counts.

Well if the ‘protestors’ displayed a modicum of decorum instead of carrying on like uneducated degenerates it would not be necessary to waste Garda resources when Ministers attend public engagements.
