Poll: Should all legal highs be banned?

Sixteen per cent of Irish young people say they’ve tried legal highs, while one third think they should be banned. Have your say…

A NEW STUDY has found that Irish young people are the biggest users of synthetic drugs in the EU. Sixteen per cent of Irish people aged 16 – 24 have taken legal highs.

The European Union has announced a crackdown after a record number of new products were found to be on the market, with plant-based substances and synthetic derivatives of other drugs among those now available. Last year the drug MCAT, also known as meow meow, was banned after it was linked to 39 deaths.

The survey also revealed that one third of young Irish people think that legal highs should be banned outright, while more than half thinking they’re safe and should only be banned if they pose a health risk.

What do you think? Should all ‘legal highs’ be banned?
