Boy (4) dies after collision in which three others injured

A man in a second car was arrested after the incident and has been released without charge.

A YOUNG BOY has died following a crash in Portarlington.

He was among four people who were injured when the two-car collision occurred at Ballymorris, Portarlington, Co Laois at around 8.30pm yesterday evening.

The female driver in her 30s, along with the two passengers, a 4-year-old boy, and a 7-year-old boy, were injured and brought to Portlaoise and Tullamore Hospitals.

The 4-year-old was pronounced dead late last night.

The driver and sole occupant of the second car was arrested at the scene and has since been released without charge. The investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí said this morning that this stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
