IT SEEMS THE Irish are not the only ones the people of Poznan hold special place in their hearts for.
Remember those posters that appeared in Dublin city centre last week, thanking the Irish football fans for being the ‘Kings of the Craic’ during Euro 2012? Well Zagreb in Croatia got them too (although they just got a ‘thank you’ – no ‘kings of the craic’ for the Croatians).
But that’s ok Poznan. We forgive you and we’re good sports so we’ll accept your conclusion that “these two countries won the hearts of the residents of Poznan and it is them that we would like to thank”.
Poznan hosted 70,000 Irish fans and 40,000 Croatian fans for Euro 2012 and the city’s Promotion Office has told TheJournal.ie that:
It is the Boys in Green that we remember as true fans, who can have fun and support their national team until the very end, regardless of the score on the pitch.
Thanks Poznan. You’re our favourites.
An exhibition of photographs of the EURO 2012 experience in Poznan taken by fans and residents is due to be displayed in Dublin later this month, as well as in Zagreb, Rome and Berlin. The pictures will then be presented to the Polish Embassy in Dublin.
