IF ENTERTAINING OUTDOORS and letting the kids play safely in the fresh air are both high on your list of priorities, then a home with a large garden is probably non-negotiable. Finding a property with one that’s already landscaped and ready to use is even better.
Here are four spacious and interesting family homes, in Cork, Kildare and Dublin, with gardens that have already been prepped and preened for you to lounge in for as long as the weather allows.
Head west to Oranswell in Co Galway and you’ll find Ceann Scribe – a five-bed home that’s 290 m² in size and detached. It sits on one acre of landscaped mature gardens with double patios and is bordered by a stream.
Located close to the main Moycullen Road, this property has a lovely country location while being located close to the city Galway city. Glenlo Abbey Hotel and Estate is just half a kilometre away.
61 The Paddocks is a four-bed, three bathroom home that’s generous in size and lies on almost a quarter of an acre. It has a large garden and patio area that can be accessed from the playroom as well as the kitchen. With a BER of C2, a family could move in immediately without the need to do any major renovation work to improve comfort levels.
Simple solid oak floors and a white staircase greet you in the hall, leading you through to a spacious modern home. Location-wise, Glanmire town is just a five minute drive while a bus outside the door will bring you to Cork city centre.
Staying in Glanmire, 17 Oakfield Heights is another four-bed home. This dormer bungalow spans 178 m² and differs greatly to the much recognisable Irish bungalow of the much-talked about Bungalow Bliss era.
This one was built in 2000, is Dutch in style and enjoys a rear south-facing private garden, which is sure to get the best of the sun. Its cul-de-sac location guarantees no annoying road noise. Oakfield Heights is just a bus ride to Cork city centre, and is within walking distance to schools of both levels.

If extra space is a priority, this four bedroom, 272 m² house is worth a look. 8 Kribensis Manor sits in a private gated community, and is down a cul de sac for extra peace and quiet. Inside is a large American style kitchen, a utility room, a sunroom, a playroom and a downstairs bathroom.
Upstairs you’ll find four bedrooms, two of which have en suite bathrooms. The grounds are accessible by electric gates while a freestanding garage sits to one side. The rear garden is big and laid in lawn with a patio area. You can easily access the M3 motorway, so Dublin city centre is 30 minutes away – and just one mile away is Clonee village.
