The most expensive cities in the world to rent in have been revealed

The cost of renting a property in some of the biggest cities in the world has been laid bare in the 2017 Rental Affordability Index, with San Francisco claiming the top spot, and Dublin coming in at the 23rd most expensive city in the world to rent property.

Dublin is getting a new tenement museum this summer

No 14 Henrietta Street is due to officially open this summer as a museum charting tenement life in Dublin. The old four-storey Georgian building has a long and interesting history, and conservationists hope it will be the ideal location for an interactive museum experience charting Dublin’s past.

Homelessness in Ireland has reached an all-time high

The number homeless families and children staying in emergency accommodation declined last month, but the number of people in total shot up to record highs. Figures for January show that there were a total of 7,167 homeless adults and children in emergency accommodation across Ireland in January.

• One of Drogheda’s fanciest hotels has been sold and is getting a facelift. The D Hotel was sold by Galway businessman Gerry Barrett, for an undisclosed sum to a new firm called Gleann Hospitality Ltd.
• Over 200 new jobs will be created at two new service stations, located on the M8 Cork/Dublin Road in Fermoy, Cork and the M9 Dublin/Waterford Road at Rathcrogue, Carlow. The first is due to open in March.
• Dozens of family homes in Balgriffin, Dublin have been snapped up before building has even begun. The building company Cairn said that €18.1 million of sales, representing 52 units, “has already been secured through strong pre-sales in January and February 2017″.
