Men questioned over Post Office raid and getaway car crash are released

An armed raid took place in Strokestown, Roscommon on Tuesday. The car used to escape from the scene was later crashed on the roadside.

THREE MEN HELD for questioning over an armed raid at a post office in Co Roscommon have been released without charge.

Two masked men — one of whom is believed to have been armed with a gun — entered the post office in Strokestown on Tuesday morning, threatened staff and customers and made off with a sum of cash.

They escaped in a silver Volvo, which later crashed on the road between Ballymahon and Lanesborough.

Two men were arrested at the scene, while a third was detained later that evening. All are aged in their 20s.

Gardai say this morning that all three men detained in connection with the investigation have been released, with a file on the case to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
