RIP.ie launches 'uplifting' podcast about grief

The six-part series will feature conversations with guest speakers about their experiences of grief

THE ONLINE DEATH notice platform RIP.ie has launched its first podcast, a six-part series exploring love and loss.

The move comes in the 20th year of RIP.ie, which was founded by brother and sister Jay Coleman and Dympna Coleman in 2005.
RIP.ie was sold to the Irish Times in May 2024 after its growing importance saw it receive up to a quarter of a million visitors on a daily basis in the years prior.

Hosted by Muireann O’Connell, the podcast will feature guest speakers to discuss their experiences of grief.

Radio DJ Colm Hayes will chat to O’Connell on the first episode of the series about his late wife, Anne, and the six years they lived with her cancer diagnosis.

Journalists Miriam O’Callaghan and Jacqui Hurley, writer Darragh Fleming, and author Sarah Corbett Lynch will also feature in the first series of the podcast

Host O’Connell described the conversations on the podcast as “uplifting and life‑affirming”, even when they’re rooted in loss.

“Every guest brings such honesty, humour and heart to the table. It’s a privilege to sit with people as they share stories about those they’ve loved and lost — and to create something that listeners can hopefully find comfort, connection and even joy in,” she said.

Richie Kelly, Head of RIP.ie, said the podcast was designed to create space for “honest conversations about loss, love, and legacy — not in a heavy way, but in a human way”.

“It’s about celebrating the voices and memories that stay with us long after someone is gone,” he added.

The first episode of the podcast is available on YouTube and all major podcast platforms.
