Irish man arrested in Scotland in connection with €9m cocaine seizure

Police said it was one of the most significant seizures ever in Scotland.

POLICE IN SCOTLAND have arrested an Irish man in connection with the seizure of £8m (€9.1m) worth of cocaine.

It is understood the man, Kieran O’Carroll, is originally from County Clare. He was arrested last Thursday in an operation in North Lanarkshire, a suburb of Glasgow. He has since been charged by detectives.

The Scottish Sun reported this morning that O’Carroll and his co-accused Charles McAughey and Mark Paterson appeared in court.

The Irish man has been granted bail with Paterson and will appear on a future date, while McAughey is due back in court tomorrow.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed the arrests in a statement.

“On Thursday, 11 December, 2025, officers executed a warrant at a premises on Melford Road in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire and cocaine with an estimated street value of more than £8m was recovered.

“The men, aged 29, 46 and 65, were arrested and charged in connection.”

Detective Superintendent Steven Elliot said: “This was a sizeable recovery – one of the most significant we’ve seen in Scotland.”
