Man shot dead by federal agents in Minneapolis

Governor Tim Walz said the President ‘must end this operation’ and ‘pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota’.

LAST UPDATE | 1 hr ago

A MAN WAS shot dead by federal agents in the US city of Minneapolis, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed.

According to a hospital record obtained by news agency The Associated Press, the man was 51.

In a post to X, the Department said the man was armed.

“Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene.”

It also said the shooting occurred during “a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault.”

An unconfirmed video of the shooting shows a man who appears to have been shot during a street disturbance, with several gunshots heard and at least one person in the vicinity wearing a vest marked “POLICE.”

The video shows at least seven apparent officers grappling with the man before a gunshot rings out.

The state’s Governor Tim Walz said he has spoken with the White House “after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning”.

“Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

“The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

The city government said it is “aware of reports of another shooting involving federal law enforcement in the area of 26th Street W and Nicollet Ave”, and said it is working to confirm additional details.

Today’s shooting follows the fatal shooting of Renee Good three weeks ago, a 37-year-old American woman who was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on 7 January. Her death sparked protests against the presence of federal agents in the city.

The officer who fired the shots that killed Good, Jonathan Ross, has not been suspended or charged.

A week after her death, a man was shot in the leg by an ICE agent in the same city.
