Skoda Karoq

It's a December arrival for the new Skoda Karoq compact SUV

The Karoq will be unveiled to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

SKODA HAS ANNOUNCED more details about its new compact SUV, the Karoq.

The Karoq is the replacement for the quirky Yeti and will be competition for the Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008 and Volkswagen Tiguan and new arrivals the Kia Stonic and SEAT Arona.

So far we know that Irish buyers of the Karoq will have a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines, with both automatic and manual transmissions on offer. The range will start with a 1.0-litre petrol that produces 115hp and will be topped off by an all-wheel drive 190hp 2.0-litre TDI engine.

We also know that the Karoq will be the first Skoda to use the all-digital instrument pack which is the same as the Active Info Display found in Volkswagen models.

Traditionally Skoda Ireland has offered three specification levels – Active, Ambition and Style – but the new Karoq will not be offered in entry-level Active trim.

Cathal Kealey of Skoda Ireland says: “By focusing on the higher spec models only, we will be better able to meet our customers’ needs.”

But it’s thought around half of all Kodiaq sales are for the high-spec Style version, with just two per cent of sales being for the entry-level Active versions – which could account for the decision here.

Skoda Ireland also says that in 2019 there will be SportLine and luxury Laurin & Klement derivatives launched.

Skoda Ireland is still in the process of confirming the exact pricing but this means that the starting price will be for Ambition specced models. Pricing and further specification details are expected to be announced in mid-October.

The Karoq will be unveiled to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month and goes on sale towards the end of this year, with first deliveries beginning in the 181 registration period.
