Status Yellow wind warning in effect for five counties

The warning will remain in effect until 7pm.

LAST UPDATE | 23 Feb 2025

A STATUS YELLOW wind warning is in place for five counties with “very strong” winds expected.

Met Éireann said the warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will remain in place until 7pm.

The national forecaster said very strong and gusty southwesterly winds could lead to difficult travel conditions and fallen trees and loose debris in the affected counties.

A Yellow wind and rain warning was earlier in place earlier for 15 counties across the country, but was lifted at 3pm. A separate wind warning which was in effect for Northern Ireland was also lifted.

Met Éireann said temperatures will reach highs of 11 to 14 degrees today.

It said the rain will gradually clear eastwards throughout the morning, with scattered blustery showers following for the rest of the day. Some of those showers will be heavy with isolated thunderstorms possible.

Tonight will see a mix of clear spells and scattered showers, which will heaviest and most frequent in the west, with some hail and isolated thunderstorms possible. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.

Tomorrow will be a fresh and blustery day with sunny spells and showers. Some of these showers in the afternoon and evening will be heavy, with the further possibility of hail and thunderstorms.

Scattered showers will continue on Monday night, mainly over the west and north, some of them heavy with hail and thunder possible. There will be some drier and clearer intervals further east and south, with lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees.
