GARDAÍ HAVE LAUNCHED an investigation into a hit-and-run in County Kerry that has left a man in a critical condition in hospital. 

The incident, which happened near Ardfert and Abbeydorney, is understood to have occurred last night at approximately 9pm.

Sources have said that gardaí are examining a theory that the man may have had a dispute with a motorist before he was knocked down. 

It is believed gardaí are looking for the driver of a car that struck the man and left the scene. 

The road was sealed off for a forensic examination and gardaí are understood to be speaking to witnesses.

A garda statement confirmed they were investigating the incident. 

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian which occurred in the Tubrid More area, Ardfert, Co. Kerry.

“The pedestrian, a male in his 30s, was conveyed to University Hospital Kerry where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle had left the scene before arrival of Gardaí.

“The scene has been examined and the road has since fully reopened to traffic. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them,” the statement said. 

The investigators have appealed to any road users who were travelling between Ardfert village, Tubrid More, Doon North, Lislosse, R556 Tralee /Abbeydorney Road and the main road between Abbeydorney and Ardfert between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Monday to make contact with them. They are especially asking that anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.
