The forecaster has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for the entire country.

MET ÉIREANN HAS issued a Status Yellow wind warning for the entire country for Tuesday, with very strong gusts forecast and a risk of coastal flooding.

The warning will come into effect at 3am on Tuesday morning and last until 9pm. According to the forecaster, Tuesday will see “very strong and gusty southerly winds with gales possible near coasts” and “increased flood risk in coastal areas due to coincidence with very high spring tides”.

Possible impacts include difficult travelling conditions, flooding of low-lying coastal areas, wave overtopping, debris and loose objects displaced, and outdoor events being affected.

A separate rain warning will also come into affect on Monday evening until Tuesday morning, and affect Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford.

Meanwhile, a rain warning is currently in place for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry. The warning was issued by the UK Met Office and will be in place until 3pm this afternoon.

In general, the weather today is cloudy with widespread rain and drizzle across the country. These will occasionally turn heavy, before clearing from the west into the afternoon.

Some sunny spells will follow, with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers, before the rain mostly clears this evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with light to moderate southeasterly winds veering southwesterly.

Tonight will start dry, but rain will spread from the west, with a mix of showers and clear spells.
