Ivy-clad and eye-catching: Period four-bed with its own tennis court in Co Cork
The gardens at Stoneview House mirror that of nearby Blarney Castle.
WITH A BRIGHT red front door, decorative fascia and clad in Boston ivy, Stoneview House looks as if it has come straight from an old fairytale.
In reality, the property dates back to the 1830s and is believed to have been the house of a former steward at Blarney Castle.
It’s ideally located on a wooded site of 4.65 acres, with a beautiful tree-lined avenue leading to the front door. The steward who lived there is said to have been responsible for planting trees on the castle’s estate, which allowed him to bring back seeds of the same variety to plant at Stoneview House.
Measuring 2,230 sq ft, the four-bed residence underwent a thorough renovation in 1989 but still retains many of its original features, including sash windows and pine floors. Stepping inside, the interior design complements the history of the property while also providing a functional space to live in.
The dining room is located to the right of the hallway, with jewel-toned walls, exposed pine floors and sash windows overlooking the surrounding greenery. There’s also an open fireplace here with a cast iron chimneypiece, as well as access to what was the butler’s pantry.
Across the hall is the drawing room, which enjoys a double aspect with a large bay window. Like the dining room, there are exposed pine floors and an open fireplace here.
Moving to the end of the hallway, the kitchen and breakfast room is a warm and welcoming space. There are pine units and quarry tiled floors in here, as well as a two-oven Aga. While the kitchen looks very different to what one would find in a modern home, it matches Stoneview House’s design perfectly.
On the first floor of the property, there are four bedrooms, three en suite bathrooms and one family bathroom. The family bathroom features an original Victorian cast iron claw foot bath and hand-painted tiles, while the en suite bathrooms include antique sinks and showers.
To the rear of Stoneview House, there’s a whitewashed stone courtyard with a number of outbuildings, including a laundry room, a workshop, a coach house and stables. Impressively, there’s a grass tennis court located at the front of the grounds, as well as four railed paddocks.
Despite being surrounded by the tranquil Cork countryside, Blarney town is less than a five-minute drive from the property, while the city is 20 minutes away.
