Poll: When does summer end?

Let’s decide, once and for all. Why should Met Éireann have all the power?

WE DIDN’T KNOW what we were letting ourselves in for when we posted this story yesterday, noting that Met Éireann was forecasting the bad weather would continue “until the last day of summer”.

The headline kicked off a massive debate in the comments section – even though we’d double checked this list of fun facts for primary students from the weather service (it’s actually pretty educational).

But why should Met Éireann have all the power? Let’s decide once and for all when ‘summer’ happens in Ireland. Should we stick with the accepted wisdom – or can we make fetch happen for, say, July, August and September?

So (and this is binding, remember) when is summer?

Poll Results:

June, July, August (7042)
May, June, July (4731)
1987? (1530)
July, August, September (1259)
