Several Irish supermarkets have reduced the price of their own-brand butter today

Musgrave says the reductions of up to 15% will deliver savings of up to 60 cent per pack from today.

THE PRICE OF own-brand butter in Supervalu, Centra and Lidl has gone down today.

Irish food retailer Musgrave (the parent company of Supervalu and Centra) announced price reductions across its full range of SuperValu and Centra own-brand Irish butter products this morning, with the cuts coming into effect nationwide from today.

The reductions, worth up to 15%, will see savings of up to €0.60 per pack on own-brand Irish creamery butter, including both salted and unsalted options in 227g and 454g sizes.

Under the changes, all SuperValu and Centra 454g own-brand butter products have been reduced from €3.99 to €3.39, while 227g packs have fallen from €2.39 to €2.09.

Musgrave said the move reflects its efforts to ease pressure on household budgets amid ongoing cost-of-living concerns.

“We understand the ongoing cost pressures facing households and remain focused on delivering value for customers,” a spokesperson said.

“We continue to invest heavily in our own-brand range to ensure shoppers can access great quality products at the best possible prices.”

Elsewhere, Lidl confirmed this afternoon that the price of a number of their own butter products have been reduced.

Lidl’s 454g Dairy Manor own-brand butter has been reduced from €3.99 to €3.39 (a reduction of 60 cents) and its 227g Dairy Manor own-brand butter has been reduced from €2.39 to €2.09 (a reduction of 30 cents).

The price cuts come amid wider scrutiny of grocery costs, with recent figures showing Irish households faced higher food bills over the Christmas period, despite some reductions on staple items in recent months.

Due to grocery inflation, which currently stands at 6%, the cost of Christmas dinner increased to €32.28 altogether for a family of four (an increase of almost €1 from last year), according to market research company Worldpanel.

According to CSO inflation figures, the average cost of a pound (454g) of butter increased by 55 cents in the 12 months up to November 2025. A pound of butter now costs €4.88.

Earlier this year, Musgrave also confirmed price cuts across its own-brand milk range, following similar moves by other major retailers.
