LAST UPDATE | 51 mins ago

GARDAÍ AND THE military have responded to a suspicious package incident at Trump Doonbeg in County Clare just hours after the US President’s son Eric left the resort.

Emergency services have been alerted to the incident when, it is understood, workers at the resort became concerned about the contents of the delivery  – military experts will examine it.

Eric Trump, Donald Trump’s son, was in Doonbeg in the last 48 hours but has since travelled to Switzerland to attend the Davos World Economic Forum.

The golf course and hotel is part of the US President Donald Trump’s global hospitality business.

Gardaí have responded to the call and it is understood Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts have also been called.

A Defence Forces spokesperson said: “As the operation is ongoing it’s not appropriate to comment.”

A garda spokeswoman said: “We are currently dealing with an ongoing incident at a premises in West Clare. There will be no further comment at this time.”

This is a developing story and we will update as details emerge.
