1. #CHARGES The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has told the Dáil that it’s not yet clear how much householders will have to pay in property and water charges from next year. The government has confirmed that the taxes will be applied from 2012 and will likely increase in 2013, and that a third ‘household charge’ may also apply.

2. #AER LINGUS Talks aimed at averting a strike by Aer Lingus pilots will take place tomorrow at the Labour Relations Commission. It had been reported that discussions were due to begin today but the IMPACT trade union has confirmed that the talks were always scheduled to being tomorrow. The airline and the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association are aiming to resolve a dispute that could see pilots striking from next Tuesday in a row over rostering.

3. #UNEMPLOYMENT The number of people without jobs rose last month, with the unemployment rate reaching 14.8 per cent. The news comes after a minor decrease in unemployment in April.

4. #CUCUMBERS Spain is considering taking action against German authorities after it was found that Spanish produce is not to blame for the deadly E.coli outbreak in Germany. Spain has lost an estimated €200 million as a result of the scare. Sixteen people have now died in Germany.

5. #SOCIAL MEDIA Tesco, Ryanair and UPC have been found to be bottom of the table when it comes to engaging with their online customers through social media. A new survey has found that that they met none of the criteria put in place for determining customer interaction. Sports retailer Elverys was the top Irish company.
