PSNI officers from the Tactical Support Group search outside the police station in Lurgan after the incident.

Teenage boy among three people arrested over attempted car bomb attack on Lurgan police station

All three were arrested in the Lurgan area, where a number of searches remain ongoing.

THREE PEOPLE, INCLUDING a teenage boy, have been arrested by police investigating an attempted car bomb attack on a police station in Co Armagh.

On 30 March, a delivery driver was hijacked and forced to drive a ‘crude but viable’ explosive device in his vehicle to Lurgan police station.

The delivery driver was able to alert staff at the police station that there was a bomb in his car, and a controlled explosion was carried out to make it safe.

The PSNI has said it is “highly likely” that dissident republican groups were responsible for the attack.

This morning, detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit arrested a 48-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy under the Terrorism Act. They have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

A 39-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, obstructing police and assisting an offender.

All three were arrested in the Lurgan area, where a number of searches remain ongoing.

A police spokesperson said the “cowardly and widely condemned” attack put “innocent lives at risk”.

“I’m keen to offer assurance that we will continue in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice, and would encourage anyone with information to get in touch,” the spokesperson said.
