US embassy in Oslo hit by explosion, Norwegian police say

No injuries were reported in the blast, which went off at around 1am.

POLICE IN NORWAY are at the scene of a reported explosion at the US embassy in Oslo this morning.

In a statement, police said that they have deployed “large resources” in the area.

Officers were alerted at around 1am after witnesses reported a loud bang near the embassy in the Huseby area, about 7km outside Oslo city centre.

Police said they are in contact with embassy officials and that no injuries have been reported.

Incident commander Michael Dellemyr told Norwegian public broadcaster NRK the explosion occurred at the public entrance to the building.

Norwegian news site VG reported that residents described hearing a loud bang followed by smoke covering the Makrellbekken area near the embassy.

VG journalists at the scene observed minor damage to the building outside the consular entrance.

Dellemyr said police have an idea of what caused the blast, but were not disclosing details for investigative reasons.

Officers have searched the surrounding area to ensure there are no further dangers to embassy staff or nearby residents.

Police said they are now searching for those responsible.
