Weather to remain 'bright and breezy' today after Storm Dave

Today will be much milder but some showers may fall as hail, with sleet possible, on higher ground early today.

THIS MORNING IS to remain “bright and breezy” with sunny spells and scattered showers, Met Éireann said.

It follows heavy winds across the country yesterday, with some counties facing downpours. Storm Dave hit the island yesterday, causing power outages in areas including Galway, Kerry, and Donegal. A significant number of households remain without power currently as the ESB continues repair works.

A number of flights were cancelled while others were diverted.

Today will be much milder, the forecaster said, but some showers may fall as hail, with sleet possible, on higher ground early today. The showers will ease through the afternoon and become isolated by the evening.

Highest temperatures are forecast to be between 7 and 10 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds, but these winds will also ease later on today.

Tonight will be dry with mostly clear skies, with clouds set to build from the west with a few spots of drizzle moving onto western coasts towards tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow will be “rather windy” but largely dry, although counties on the Atlantic coast will see light rain and drizzle.

A national overview for the week ahead foresees mixed conditions generally, beginning mild with temperatures “returning to more normal values” later in the week.
