FEW SONGS ARE as synonymous with Cork as the Sultans of Ping classic Where’s Me Jumper?
The anarchic banger was released in 1992 and is now considered a bona fide classic.
It makes sense then that the Sultans of Ping’s native city would choose to commemorate the song. After all, it’s as Cork as Roy Keane drinking a Tanora.
In 2016, Reimagine Cork set about brightening up the city’s landscape. They enlisted street artists to paint murals and partnered up with local businesses to create large-scale artworks.
The organisation partnered up with website People’s Republic of Cork to redecorate some of the city’s electrical power boxes.
Among the offerings is this homage to Where’s Me Jumper?
The artwork features on two electrical power boxes.
One bears the song’s iconic opening lyrics: “My brother knows Karl Marx, he met him eating mushrooms in the people’s park.” To its right is a second box featuring a portrait of Karl Marx.
The boxes are situated outside Bishop Lucey Park in Cork City and have quickly become part of the city’s tapestry.
