Why is it important to attend screening post menopause?

You can still get cervical cancer post-menopause.

People aged over 50 are coming less often for their HPV cervical screening test. The best way to find high-risk types of HPV that cause cervical cancer is to attend HPV screening. We encourage you to continue coming for cervical screening as you grow older. You can still get cervical cancer even if you are not having sex.

The screening test might feel more uncomfortable, embarassing or painful post-menopause. Talk to your GP or nurse before you book your screening test or during it. There are ways to make it more comfortable for you.
