Five injured as car and van crash on N62 in Co Westmeath

The driver of the van and four occupants of the car have been taken to hospital.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses to a crash in Ballinahown, Co Westmeath yesterday that injured several people.

The collision involving a car and a van happened at around 1pm on the N62 to the east of Athlone yesterday.

The female driver of the van, aged in her 40s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar for treatment of serious injuries, which gardaí said are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The driver of the car, a man in his late teens, and three passengers in their 20s were taken to hospital in Tullamore. 

The scene has been preserved as forensic tests take place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, and were in the area at the time are asked to contact gardaí.
