Woman (80s) dies after collision between SUV and truck in Co Roscommon

A woman aged in her 70s was transferred by air ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious injuries.

A WOMAN HAS died and another woman has been seriously injured in a collision in Co Roscommon. 

The collision, involving a SUV and a truck, happened shortly after 5pm on the N5 at Scramoge, a townland around 24km north of Roscommon town.

A passenger in the SUV, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the morgue where a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The driver of the SUV, a woman in her 70s, was transferred by air ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The road is closed and expected to remain so until tomorrow pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, and who were travelling in the area between 4.45pm and 5.15pm are asked to make this footage available to them.
